The Opportunity
As Affiliate.com continues to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Software Developer to join our Engineering team and lead our browser and Chrome extension development efforts.
In this role, you will focus on designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing browser-based applications and extensions.
This is a remote position. US/Canadian candidates only.
The ideal candidate is a proven developer with a strong background in browser and extension-based shopping products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and deploy browser and Chrome Extensions.
- Build responsive and intuitive browser-based user interfaces.
- Integrate third-party APIs, authentication systems, and backend services.
- Develop content scripts, background workers, and browser actions.
- Optimize extension performance for speed, security, and scalability.
- Support in-code reviews, testing and debugging of applications across multiple browser environments.
- Build and maintain the middleware layer between our browser extension clients and backend services, including request routing, response transformation, caching strategies, rate limiting, and error normalization.
- Participate actively in architectural decisions that shape how the extension communicates with our API platform.
- Build and maintain a real-time observability and monitoring system for extension behavior and backend health. You will be expected to define alerting thresholds, instrument meaningful metrics, and respond to production issues quickly.
- Innovate on our proprietary technologies, processes and solutions.
- Collaborate with designers and product owners to design, build and configure new product and feature requirements to meet business needs.
Experience and Background:
- Chrome extension / browser extension architecture for shopping products: Experience shipping or leading development of Chrome extensions, including content scripts, service workers, and the Manifest V3 constraints that govern them.
- Knowledge of limitations and best practices working with Chromium-based browsers
- Deep understanding of Chrome Web Store and Edge compliance, policies, best practices with demonstrable experience publishing successful extensions.
- Experience building Affiliate monetized shopping/coupon extensions, and understanding around the Affiliate commerce ecosystem
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role with proven technical skills
- Experience building intuitive user interfaces, including understanding of good vs bad UX in extensions, with examples of prior work
- Able to make and defend technical decisions for the greater good of the entire suite of offerings
- Able to jump between frontend and backend development tasks, or tackling tasks which require both
- Comfortable with working on tasks of all sizes - from small bug fixes and enhancements to large features/rewrites
- Startup or fast-paced product development environments
- Data extraction and browser automation
- Analytics and tracking integrations
